Important Updates on POPIA Re-Registration and PAIA Report Submission
On 22 April 2024, the Information Regulator published a notice (‘the notice’) to all private and public bodies, reminding them to, in compliance with the Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA), submit their annual PAIA reports.
These Reports inform the Information Regulator of the number, type and outcomes of access to information requests received by an entity.
The notice indicated that the portal for submission of ‘access to information annual reports’ will only be live and accessible from 1 May 2024 and will close on 30 June 2024.
The Information Officers of all private and public bodies are herewith reminded to submit these reports before the closing date.
Key Updates:
1. Re-Registration of Information Officers and Deputy Information Officers:
– The Information Regulator has launched a new website and e-services platform.
– All entities, even those previously registered before May 2024, are required to re-
register on the new system to ensure compliance.
2. Submission of PAIA Reports:
– Organisations are reminded to submit their annual PAIA reports as mandated by law.
– The portal for PAIA report submissions will close on 30 June 2024, and late
submissions may lead to non-compliance penalties.
